Gender and Criminal Violence in Cultic Contexts: The Experience of Former Members
10 h à 11 h (HAE)
Presented by Céleste Goguen (master’s candidate in social sciences at the Université de Moncton) and Marie-Andrée Pelland (Ph.D., associate professor of criminology at the Université de Moncton and president of Info-Cult).
This presentation will address the ways in which violence is experienced in cultic groups by women, men, non-binary and 2SLGBTQI+ persons. Different forms of victimization will be explored through the accounts of former members, with particular attention to the way that environments which idealize reductive, binary gender roles and heteronormativity make people who do not conform to these models more vulnerable to harm. This webinar will be given in both English and French and will include a Q&A session.
